What are ANUSOL™ Plus products used for?
The uses of ANUSOLTM Plus Ointment and Suppositories are to temporarily relieve symptoms due to hemorrhoids, hemorrhoidal tissues, or piles, including itching, pain, soreness, swelling, burning, and irritation.
How do I choose between ANUSOL™ Plus Ointment and ANUSOL™ Plus Suppositories?
There is no difference in the medication contained in the different ANUSOLTM Plus product formats. Rely on your clinical experience and the preference of your patient when making your recommendation. Hemorrhoid ointments may work well on both external and internal hemorrhoids, and suppositories may be best for internal hemorrhoids. Always direct your patient to read and follow the label.
What are the directions for use?
ANUSOLTM Plus Ointment
For external hemorrhoids:
The patient should cleanse the affected area with mild soap and water and rinse well or pat with an appropriate cleansing pad. After gently drying by patting or blotting using toilet tissue or a soft cloth, they should apply the ointment to the affected area up to 5 times a day.
For internal hemorrhoids:
The patient should remove the cap from the tube and lubricate the applicator with a small amount of ointment. Attaching the applicator to the tube, they should insert into the rectum and gently squeeze to release medication. The applicator should be washed with soap and water after each use. Repeat applications every 4 hours, or as needed, and after every bowel movement, up to 5 times daily.
ANUSOLTM Plus Suppositories
The patient should remove one suppository from its foil wrapper and insert it into the rectum. One suppository should be used in the morning, one at bedtime, and one after each bowel movement, up to 5 times daily.
Should ANUSOL™ Plus be used in children (<18 years old)?
ANUSOLTM Plus may be used by those 12 years of age or older. The product should be kept out of reach of children.
Are there any warnings or precautions?
ANUSOLTM Plus Ointment
This product should not be used with an applicator if the introduction of the applicator into the rectum causes additional pain.
Patients should reconsult with you in the event that:
• They experience bleeding
• The condition worsens or does not improve within 7 days
• They experience redness, irritation, swelling, pain, or other symptoms
The product should be kept out of reach of children. If swallowed, patients should call a poison control centre or seek immediate medical attention.
ANUSOLTM Plus Suppositories
For rectal use only.
Patients should reconsult with you in the event that:
• They experience bleeding

Your patient should apply the ointment freely to the affected area every 4 hours, or as needed, and after each bowel movement.
ANUSOLTM Multi-Symptom Suppositories
Your patient should remove a suppository from the foil wrapper and insert it into the rectum. They should use one suppository in the morning, one at bedtime, and one after each bowel movement.

ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT
ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT (Hydrocortisone Acetate and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate) is indicated for the relief of pain and discomfort following anorectal surgery of all types and that are associated with the acute phase of common anorectal disorders. These include external and internal hemorrhoids (including those accompanying pregnancy), whether or not complicated by thrombosis and prolapse; pruritis ani, proctitis, cryptitis, fissures, and incomplete fistulas; and other congestive allergic or inflammatory conditions.
ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES
ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES (Hydrocortisone Acetate and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate) are indicated for the relief of pain and discomfort following anorectal surgery of all types and that are associated with the acute phase of common anorectal disorders. These include hemorrhoids, internal and external (including those accompanying pregnancy) whether or not complicated by thrombosis and prolapse; pruritis ani, proctitis, cryptitis, fissures, and incomplete fistulas; and other congestive allergic or inflammatory conditions.
Contraindications
ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT and ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES are contraindicated in patients with a sensitivity to any of the components. Not to be used in the presence of existing tuberculous, fungal, and viral lesions of the skin.
Precautions
Until an adequate proctologic examination is completed and diagnosis made, ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT, ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES, or any preparation containing hydrocortisone should not be used. In addition, specific measures against infection, allergy, and other causal factors must not be neglected. Prolonged use of this medication could produce systemic corticosteroid adverse effects, although none have been noted to date. As with all medication that is applied locally, if idiosyncratic reactions occur, medication should be discontinued.

Can ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT or ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES be used by a pregnant or nursing patient?
The safe use of topical corticosteroids during pregnancy and lactation has not been fully established. Therefore, during pregnancy, ANUSOL-HCTM OINTMENT and ANUSOL-HCTM SUPPOSITORIES should not be used unnecessarily in large amounts, or for prolonged periods of time.
Do my patients need a prescription for ANUSOL-HC™ OINTMENT or ANUSOL-HC™ SUPPOSITORIES?
Yes. A prescription is required for ANUSOL-HCTM OINTMENT or ANUSOL-HCTM SUPPOSITORIES.
